October 5, 2010 - Hannah Jo Weisberg, President of Prime Stage's Teen Advisory Board and a Gateway High School senior, was honored today at the annual VITA Awards program at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
"In her role as President, she helped choose the theme "the dangers of teen dating violence" as the group's focus for a performance last year at the New Hazlett Theater. A scene from the play that they produced last season, was presented in the Capital rotunda again last week in Harrisburg. The teens from Prime Stage Teen Board have become a strong voice for teens of legislation that would integrate teen dating violence education into middle and high school curriculum. As president of Prime Stage Theatre's teen board, Hannah was there to express the concerns of young people.
- Wayne Brinda, Founder and Artistic Director
Teen dating violence shows no discrimination by race, gender, and socioeconomic lines. According to a report from the Family Violence and Protection Fund, approximately one in three adolescent girls in the United States is a victim of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner - a figure that far exceeds victimization rates for other types of violence affecting youth.
