PRIME STAGE TEEN NIGHT TO RAISE FUNDS FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN

More than 2000 children each year in the Pittsburgh area find themselves homeless. They often have only items that can fit in a garbage bag and are uprooted not only from their homes but from their schools and all that they are familiar to them. The Prime Stage Teen Advisory Board works with the Homeless Children's Initiative to reach out to these children. The Advisory Board will sponsor a night of drama, music and fun for the benefit of the Homeless Children's Initiative.

The event, presented for the second year, will feature three live stage performances: Because He's a Lion by Isaac Munro, The Magical Stylings of Miss Yogburt the Y by Dani Lyon Zoints, and Back to Yellow by Sarah Giesler. The plays are produced by the teens themselves, who select the scripts from submissions by teen playwrights, produce, direct, market and sell the Teen Night. Live music by The Violet Imperative will entertain our guests in the lobby before, during and after the performances.

Because He's a Lion is the story of a father and his two children who travel to Africa to see the magnificent animals, especially the lions. When tensions arise, and Ryan and Gabby don't know what to do, they attempt to open their father's eyes to their needs and fears, which he has been ignoring.

In The Magical Stylings of Miss Yogburt the Y, at Leger Demain High School's "first and most successful talent show to date," The Magical Stylings of seventeen year-old Yogburt the Y don't go as smoothly as she would like. Yogburt deals with a far-from-impressed audience and an eight-year old volunteer who doesn't believe in magic.

Back to Yellow protagonist, Violet, has sinned and is convinced that there is something wrong with the society in which she lives, so she's sent to a doctor. Violet must stand up for her beliefs, resisting the ideas of the corrupt world in which she has grown up; all Violent wants is freedom.

The production takes place on Monday, February 25, 2008 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the New Hazlett Theatre, 6 Allegheny Square East on Pittsburgh's North Side. Tickets are $5 (no credit cards) and can be purchased at the box office the day of the performance.

In the past nine years Prime Stage and the Teen Advisory Board have donated thousands of dollars in gift cards for shoes, clothing, diapers, books and numerous other items.
