Theatre Etiquette Tips

Dear Teacher,

Please review the following Theatre Etiquette Tips to make the theatre experience enjoyable. It is best to review this prior to the performance. Thanks!

1. Live theatre requires active listening. The actors can see, hear, and sense you. They will concentrate fully to give you the best performance possible. We ask you not to talk with your neighbors during the performance although we welcome laughter and applause.

2. Once you are ushered to your seat, take some time to read the playbill and look over the theatrical space. Please silence all cell phones and pagers before the performance. When the house lights dim and it is time for the performance, please be quiet so you and those around you can enjoy the show.

3. Please stay in your seat until the break between acts (intermission). This is the time for you to visit the restrooms, and discuss the show with your friends and family. If available, enjoy refreshments in the lobby but do not bring them back into the theatre.

4. Photographs and the use of recording devices are strictly prohibited in the theatre as they are disturbing to the actors and the audience. The more you focus on the performance, the more you will enjoy the experience.

Here are some ways we would like you to help Prime Stage make the experience successful for all:

  • Please monitor your students' behavior at ALL times.
  • Sit with your students, next to an aisle if possible.
  • Separate students who have the potential to be disruptive if seated together.
  • You may wish to seat specific students next to you if you have concerns about their ability to attend to the performance quietly.
  • If a student does become noisy or disruptive during the performance, please feel free to remove the student to the lobby.

Prime Stage wishes to make this theatre experience a positive event for all. We reserve the right to stop the performance if any audience members are making it difficult for others to hear, see, or concentrate on the play.

Thank you for your cooperation! Enjoy the show!
